
Alexander van Wijnen, researcher at FreedomLab, was interviewed in Het Financieele Dagblad about the different traditions of thinking about technology across cultures.
In the interview, Van Wijnen shows that technological differences between cultures should be understood in terms of “cosmotechnics”, an idea presented by the Chinese philosopher Yuk Hui. We are used to point to political differences between cultures, but cosmotechnics point to different traditions of thinking about technology itself.
The Covid-19 crisis has shown how different traditions of technology, as reflected by ancient myths and modern popular culture from Europe, the U.S. and China, are alive and well.
